Over 26 years ago, Dr. Keating founded the original Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, which later changed their name to The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus. This chorus was the very first established gay arts organization in the State of Florida and has gained respect and admiration from the community over the years with both gay and straight audiences alike. Being the first in such a divisive political climate in those days, has helped pave the way for many other gay men’s choruses, as well as so many other gay organizations in the State of Florida. The LGBT community can thank people like Dr. Keating for helping to bring equality and gay rights to the forefront and showcasing the fabulous talent in the gay community. During the holidays, Dr. Keating volunteers for the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital as Santa Claus for kids they serve as well as other children in the community.
