“The People’s Mayor” Passes Suddenly from Brain Aneurysm

Wilton Manors has experienced a few sudden losses recently, but yesterday’s news was a shock to many. Mayor Justin Flippen, 41, known as “The People’s Mayor,” passed away on Tuesday, February 25, unexpectedly on his way to a city commission meeting. Emergency services responded to his vehicle pulled over on the side of the road where they found him unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, City Police Chief Paul O’Connell wrote, “The Broward County Medical Examiner’s office has confirmed Mayor Justin Flippen’s cause of death was a brain aneurysm and the manner of death was natural.”

The outpouring of sadness and shock is apparent on Facebook today as people hear the news, post “Rest In Peace Justin Flippen” and share their stories about him. A memorial of flowers and candles has been started in front of the Wilton Manors City Hall and the flags are flying at half-mast this morning. It is apparent that “The People’s Mayor” has had a massive effect on his community.

Justin Flippen had recently announced his re-election campaign. Those who know him best say he had dreams of one day becoming President. There is a Celebration of Life Service planned for Mayor Justin Flippen on Friday, March 6, at the United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale in the Sanctuary. The service will be held at noon after a private viewing and before his private interment.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service hosted by City of Wilton Manors held at The Venue Fort Lauderdale, at 6pm on Friday, March 6, at 2345 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors.

In lieu of sending flowers or gifts, Mayor Justin Flippen’s family respectfully asks for donations to be made to the Justin Flippen Memorial Fund at Our Fund or United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale.
