Raising The Bar For Kids In Distress

The holidays are a time for giving and often, we focus on the things that affect us and our families most. Sometimes, there are kids out there who don’t have families to count on and to celebrate with for the holidays. This is where the owners, staff and patrons at Shannon & Anthony’s Corner Pub step in during the season and give back for Kids In Distress.

Shannon Henne and Anthony Henne have owned Shannon & Anthony’s Corner Pub for over ten years and it is known as one of the friendliest, neighborhood bars in town. They give back to the community and raise money throughout the year for local charities. The holiday season is a big deal for them both. Each year they decorate the bar for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and every item in the bar becomes a fundraising item. Patrons can make donations for snowflakes hanging above the bar, or holiday elves and ornaments, as well as holiday stockings! Their names are written on their item and hung in the bar with care.

Each month, the Corner Pub hosts a Bring Your Meat Night and you and your guests are invited to bring something to cook on the grill. You are provided with delicious side dishes, or you can enjoy what proteins they are serving up. Your donation of $15 goes to a local charity each month.

This holiday season, the patrons, staff and owners have really raised the bar. Totaling up their September, October and December Bring Your Meat Nights, adding up all the money they raised from their snowflakes, stockings and such, as well as a generous donation from Twitchy (one of the Corner Pub’s legendary bartenders) this year’s total money raised for Kids In Distress, is an amazing $4,125!

After receiving 30 Santa letters from Kids In Distress, these giving guys got going and gathered the goods! Filling up a number of shopping carts with toys, sneakers, shirts, games and everything these kids asked for, Shannon and Anthony, as Santa’s helpers, were able to give these children a magical Christmas. They spent over $2,800 on the goods, and delivered them to the children, along with a check for the remainder that will help support their programs. Kids in Distress is a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, the preservation of the family and the treatment of abused and neglected children. Over it’s 40 years, they have grown to include two campuses in Broward County, as well as a foster care office in Palm Beach County. For more information about Kids In Distress, visit kidinc.org.
