“The People’s Mayor” Passes Suddenly from Brain Aneurysm
Wilton Manors has experienced a few sudden losses recently, but yesterday’s news was a shock to many. Mayor Justin Flippen, 41, known as “The People’s Mayor,” passed away on Tuesday, February 25, unexpectedly on his way to a city commission meeting. Emergency services responded to his vehicle pulled over on the side of the road where they found him unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, City Police Chief Paul O’Connell wrote, “The Broward County Medical Examiner’s office has confirmed Mayor Justin Flippen’s cause of death was a brain aneurysm and the manner of death was natural.”
The outpouring of sadness and shock is apparent on Facebook today as people hear the news, post “Rest In Peace Justin Flippen” and share their stories about him. A memorial of flowers and candles has been started in front of the Wilton Manors City Hall and the flags are flying at half-mast this morning.
